The price tag for a Super Bowl commercial this year? A 30 second spot would set you back $5.25 Million according to CNBC, the highest its ever been.
Although we don’t much of any traditional advertising like TV commercials here at Socially Boutique, we love a good Super Bowl Commercial. But who doesn’t? All together, I was somewhat disappointed with the ads this year, but luckily there were still a couple really good ones. Today I wanted to share our favorites with you, the ones we think did a great job and made that $5.25 Million all worth it.
Pepsi “More Than Okay”
I’ve watched this several times now, and I still can’t help but laugh at Steve Carell, especially at the end. This commercial had great use of celebrities. One thing I learned in Journalism school while studying advertising was that if you’re going to use celebrities, it has to make sense. Cardi B and T-Pain are the perfect celebrities for making the word “okay” have more pizzaz, especially with Cardi’s over dramatized “okurrrrt.”
Also, I think everyone has heard at some point “is Pepsi okay?” which makes the commercial relatable and could even have people thinking Pepsi is “More than Okay” next time they order, which I’m sure was the ultimate goal.
Hyundai “The Elevator”
Another good use of celebrities was Jason Bateman as he takes a couple car shopping down what seems to be a hell-evator. You catch another witty joke every time you watch. From Root Canal to Jury Duty, and finally the car dealership – until they mention they are shopping for a Hyundai and Jason says “Hyundai? Going up.” A great way to showcase Hyundai’s new Shopper Assurance.
