EP 001: How to Create Your Entire Social Media Strategy for 2019 in 3 Simple Phases

Coming up with a good social media strategy from scratch can be tough. You may be asking yourself “where do I even start?” One of our biggest goals here at Socially Boutique besides making social media fun, is making it easy. Today on The Social Pod we’re breaking down these 3 phases, so you can create a social media strategy with ease.

Phase I: Research

This is the most important phase (but one that’s often skipped), because it’s going to give you valuable insights on how you can actually make an impact on social media and achieve the most growth, reach and engagement.

Step 1: Audit Your Online Presence

Do an analytics deep dive of every social media platform you were active on in the past 6 months. Just getting started with your social media? You can skip to step 2 of the research phase.

Look at important metrics such as engagement rate, growth and retention each month, top performing posts and least performing posts.

Step 2: Research Competitors

Scroll through your competitors feed and find content that got way higher engagement then the rest of their posts. Ask yourself, why did this post do so much better?

Look at the hashtags your competitors are using, how they use stories, how they’re engaging with their audience, what kind of media they are posting, etc.

Step 3: Nail Down Your Target Audience

Really get into the minds of your followers and dive deep by doing both primary and secondary research. Figure out when they are actively on social media and the best times to reach them as well as the content they resonate with the most.

Phase II: Analyze Data

Look at the research you collected in Phase I. Ask yourself, what does this all mean? Figure out the best times the post, the hashtags that go you the most engagement, why that competitors post did so well. This is the area where you need to be diving deeper into your analytics and asking: Why? How? What do I need to do to make this better? How do I make this work for me?

Phase III: Create Your Strategy

Now it’s time to piece together everything you’ve discovered from analyzing your data in Phase II. A strategy is something you are going to come back to frequently to re-assess and improve based on your analytics. Social media is always growing and evolving, so you want to make sure you are keeping up.

When you are planning your strategy, I want you to create content jars that every piece of content your create is going to fall under. Create 5-6 content jars and stick to them until the next time you re-evaluate. I also want you to look back in your analytics and see when the best time to post it. Put that in your strategy. Look at which hashtags performed the best for you or which ones will work for you based on your hashtag research. That needs to be in your strategy too. Put all of the pieces together until you have a cohesive plan, a social media strategy, for your social media channels.
